Turning 50 usually comes with a party, a cake, and possibly a mild existential spiral. For former child star Jenny Lewis, it came with a backyard wedding—complete with Polaroids, rainbow cakes, and a groom who needed a leash more than a tux.

According to People, the singer-songwriter marked the milestone by “marrying” her black cockapoo, Bobby Rhubarb, in front of close friends and longtime collaborators.

Lewis shared photos from the celebration on social media, captioning the moment, “I married my dog for my 50th birthday…BLESS!” The images showed a low-key ceremony vibe, two multi-layer cakes (“JL50!” and “For better or for worse I do!”), and her dog, Bobby Rhubarb, looking deeply unbothered by the proceedings.

The guest list leaned intimate and music-heavy. Friends and bandmates were on hand, including familiar faces from Lewis’ creative orbit. Among them: Ben Gibbard, who joined Lewis to perform “Such Great Heights,” a nod to their shared history in The Postal Service.

Also in attendance were Morgan Nagler, Dave Scher, and Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet.

Fans quickly jumped into the comments with congratulations and predictable dog-related wordplay. The overall tone landed somewhere between heartfelt and “only Jenny Lewis could pull this off,” which feels about right.

Bobby Rhubarb isn’t just a plus-one for photos. The cockapoo has been a genuine creative muse for Lewis, inspiring her 2021 song “Puppy and a Truck,” later re-released on her 2023 album Joy’All.

The track frames the dog—and the truck—as unexpected lifelines during a rough chapter. In a 2023 interview, Lewis explained that she adopted Bobby during a period of deep isolation. “I was in a really rough spot,” she said, describing how caring for him gave her a reason to leave the house and reconnect with the world.

“I don’t have any kids,” Lewis added in that same interview, “but this dog opened me up in so many ways—being responsible for a soul and caring for something outside of yourself.”
