For many American viewers discovering Skins through streaming, the controversial British series still feels shocking in its honesty. The show, which launched careers for actors like Nicholas Hoult and Dev Patel, was unapologetic about teen sex, drugs, and identity.

Megan Prescott, who joined the cast at 16 as Katie Fitch, says that notoriety followed her long after the cameras stopped rolling—and shaped how she was treated as an adult in the entertainment industry.

Prescott has since built a career spanning acting, writing, directing, and sex work, including work on OnlyFans. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan UK, she said the respect she receives from subscribers has often surpassed what she experienced in Hollywood.

Reflecting on her decision to monetize her image on her own terms, Prescott summed it up bluntly: “I’m going to profit off of my body because you taught me it was profitable.”

On Skins, Prescott played one half of the volatile Fitch twins, a character defined by confidence and sexual bravado. Behind the scenes, however, she says she was deeply insecure and navigating adult material without the safeguards that exist today.

“This was before intimacy coordinators, before #MeToo,” she said. “No one had the language of, ‘Are you comfortable? Do you want to talk about how this scene is going to go?’”

After leaving the show at 18, Prescott found that the very thing that made Skins a hit worked against her. Casting opportunities slowed, and she struggled financially. “People think we made a lot more money than we actually did,” she said, explaining that the cast earned close to minimum wage and receives nothing from streaming today. “We worked it out by the hour once, and it was minimum wage.”

That financial reality pushed her toward stripping and, eventually, OnlyFans. What surprised her was the contrast in boundaries. “Sex work was a huge sigh of relief because it was black-and-white,” Prescott explained. “In acting, it’s not like that. It’s very vague.”

She added that on the strip club floor, disrespect had consequences—security could step in—whereas in acting, power imbalances often went unchallenged.

Prescott joined OnlyFans in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, after stepping away from stripping and juggling part-time jobs. The platform became a financial lifeline. “I can only afford everything I can do now, all of my creative projects, because of OnlyFans,” she said.

While she stresses she’s not among the site’s top earners, the income allowed her to pursue passion projects without constant financial stress.

She also points out the double standard facing former child stars. “They’re highly sexualized when they’re young,” Prescott said, “but as soon as they’re adults and say, ‘I’m going to be the main benefactor of this,’ people suddenly have a problem.”

Today, Prescott continues acting and creating while speaking openly about sex work and industry hypocrisy. “I am valuable,” she said. “I see that now.”
