Jennifer Lopez is opening up about the challenges her twins faced on the road to college, revealing that both of her children have ADHD and overcame academic hurdles to earn admission to every school they applied to.
During a recent interview with Extra, Lopez shared new details about Max and Oskar's college journey as the 18-year-olds prepare to leave home this fall. The singer and actress said both teenagers were accepted to all five colleges on their lists and each received scholarship offers, achievements she says were years in the making.
"I am so proud that they set goals for themselves," Lopez said. "They all got into all five colleges that they applied to." She added that both teens earned scholarships and emphasized the amount of work required to reach that point. "I watched how hard they worked," she said, noting that their academic path wasn't always straightforward.
Lopez explained that both of her children have ADHD, which required them to approach learning differently than many of their peers. Rather than framing it as a limitation, she pointed to it as one reason their accomplishments feel especially meaningful.
"They have ADHD, and so they need to learn differently," Lopez said. "There were struggles and times, and I'm just so proud of them because they did what they said they were going to do, and they're good people."
The comments arrive just days after the family's graduation celebrations made headlines. Lopez recently attended her children's high school graduation ceremony, where family members gathered to celebrate the milestone.
The event also drew attention after social media posts connected to the graduating class identified Emme as Oskar Jacob Muñiz and revealed that their pronouns have changed to he/him. Oskar is set to attend Sarah Lawrence College and study theater and studio arts.
For Lopez, however, the focus remains on her children's character rather than their academic résumés. She said a lesson she has repeated throughout their upbringing is that being a good person matters more than grades.
"It doesn't matter if we get good grades so long as we're good people," Lopez recalled telling them.
According to the performer, the twins still quote that advice back to her today.
