Jelly Roll is opening up about a setback in his fitness journey, admitting he recently avoided weighing himself out of fear of what the scale might reveal.
In a new YouTube update, the artist said he felt “scared” to check his progress after a stretch where he “lost” his “way” following the holidays and an injury that sidelined his routine.
The 41-year-old explained that after reaching a major milestone late last year, he decided to ease up. “We hit the goal and it was right before the holidays,” he said, adding that he allowed himself to indulge during Thanksgiving, his birthday, and Christmas.
That break turned into a longer pause when he broke his collarbone just days before Christmas, forcing him to stop running and exercising altogether for a period of time.
The disruption, combined with less discipline around food, led to weight gain—and hesitation about facing it head-on.
“I am scared to [weigh in],” Jelly Roll admitted in the video. “I feel really fat, I feel really bloated… Avoiding weighing in has been the problem.”
When he eventually stepped on the scale earlier this month, he said he weighed 276.2 pounds, reflecting a 12-pound increase.
That message of accountability isn’t new for Jelly Roll. Long before his weight-loss journey, he built his public identity around transparency—especially regarding his past.
In December 2025, he received a pardon from Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, a move intended to recognize his rehabilitation and remove barriers to international travel.
Now, he’s applying that same honesty to his health. Jelly Roll said he hasn’t yet reached his “maintenance weight” and still aims to lose another 40 to 50 pounds.
He’s also setting a new goal: running the New York City Marathon later this year—something he once considered impossible.
“I’ve never ran a marathon or thought about running a marathon,” he said.
