ABC is officially expanding the world of Grey's Anatomy with a new Texas-based spinoff, and former cast member Leven Rambin is already making it clear she wants back in the franchise. Shortly after the network confirmed the upcoming series would take place in rural West Texas, Rambin jumped onto Instagram to publicly campaign for a return, joking that the production was practically being built around her current location.
“Grey’s Anatomy Texas spin-off? Are you kidding me?” Rambin said in a video, per Us Weekly. “Shonda, I’m literally in Texas right now. This needs to happen.”
The new series marks the latest expansion of the Grey’s Anatomy franchise, which has remained one of television’s longest-running scripted hits since debuting in 2005. The untitled project is being developed by franchise creator Shonda Rhimes alongside current Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis. Ellen Pompeo is also attached as an executive producer.
The series is expected to premiere during the 2027 midseason slate and will reportedly center on a fresh cast of doctors operating in West Texas, while still maintaining connective tissue to the larger Grey’s universe.
Rambin originally appeared during Season 6 as Sloan Riley, the estranged teenage daughter of Mark “McSteamy” Sloan, played by the late Eric Dane. Her five-episode storyline became one of the more chaotic family arcs of that era, beginning with Sloan unexpectedly arriving in Seattle while pregnant after being kicked out by her mother.
Mark, who previously believed the pregnancy that led to Sloan’s birth had been terminated years earlier, attempted to step into a father role almost overnight.
Her arrival immediately complicated Mark’s relationship with Lexie Grey and triggered tension inside Seattle Grace Hospital. Sloan underwent an emergency appendectomy during her pregnancy, clashed repeatedly with Lexie, and later gave birth unexpectedly in Mark’s apartment before ultimately placing the baby up for adoption.
The storyline ended with Sloan leaving Seattle after deciding she was not ready for motherhood.
The arc also remains tied to one of the show’s most recognizable eras, when Eric Dane’s “McSteamy” character was at the center of the series’ popularity.
Rambin’s push for a return comes not long after her exit from Fire Country, where she played Audrey. While discussing cast departures, showrunner Tia Napolitano noted that the CBS drama regularly rotates characters in and out as part of its storytelling structure.
