Donnie Wahlberg is opening up about a deeply personal shift, revealing that his renewed commitment to Christianity came after confronting a sense of emptiness despite having what many would consider a complete life.

Speaking on The George Janko Show, the entertainer described a recent turning point that pushed him to fully embrace his faith after years of what he called an “on-and-off journey.”

Wahlberg explained that while faith had always been present in his life, the past year marked a deeper level of surrender. “It’s really in the last year that I really have committed myself on a deeper level,” he said, noting that his success and long-standing role as a “peacemaker” in both his family and career often led him to rely solely on himself.

That mindset, he admitted, ultimately left something missing.

The actor and New Kids on the Block member has spent decades in the public eye, building a career that spans music, television, and film. Raised in a large, working-class Boston family, Wahlberg described stepping into a caretaker role at a young age—an identity that followed him into adulthood.

That same instinct to “fix everything” translated into his professional life, where he regularly performs for thousands and engages directly with fans.

During the conversation, Wahlberg was candid about the internal conflict that led to his spiritual reset. “I felt at the bottom… everything to the outside world looks perfect and I was empty,” he said. “I can’t do it anymore without Him. I’m missing something in my life.”

He added that even in moments of gratitude and success, he realized he had been “existing without Him,” rather than fully surrendering.

That realization was reinforced in part by his relationship with his wife, Jenny McCarthy, who has also spoken publicly about her own renewed faith. In December 2025, McCarthy described experiencing a “mass awakening,” saying she “completely surrendered” and became more devoted to her spiritual practice.

Per Fox News, the couple now studies the Bible and prays together, integrating faith into their daily lives.

Wahlberg emphasized that his transformation isn’t about abandoning who he is, but refining it. “It doesn’t make me not me. It makes me a better me,” he said, adding that he now views his purpose differently—using his platform to “let my light shine… to glorify Him.”
