DeenTheGreat is facing a serious legal issue after authorities in South Florida arrested the influencer boxer on an attempted robbery charge tied to an incident aboard a yacht in Miami Beach. According to Miami-Dade jail records, the 25-year-old streamer, whose real name is Nurideen Shahid Shabazz, was booked into custody early Wednesday on a charge of attempted strongarm robbery.
Police told NBC 6 that the investigation began after officers responded to the 200 block of North Shore Drive following reports that a woman had been removed from a yacht. According to the arrest report, the woman told officers she had been kicked off the boat by Shabazz after other men allegedly tried speaking with her. The report states that Shabazz had “warned her of entertaining anyone else but him” before the situation escalated.
Investigators said the confrontation intensified once the woman was off the yacht. The woman alleged that Shabazz attempted to take her cellphone while she was recording the interaction. Officers said he grabbed her forearm during the struggle, leaving a minor scratch.
Authorities later reviewed surveillance footage provided by the yacht’s owner, who told police he had allowed Shabazz to borrow the vessel that evening.
According to the police report, the footage showed “the defendant... putting his hands on the victim multiple times attempting to grab her phone where a struggle ensued over the taking of the phone.”
The report further stated that the woman could be seen “trying to get away from him” while protecting herself and her phone during the altercation.
Shabazz later told officers he believed the woman had taken his phone, according to investigators. He was detained after leaving the yacht and subsequently transported to jail.
Under Florida law, attempted robbery is classified as a felony offense, with penalties depending on the circumstances of the alleged crime. In cases involving attempted simple robbery without a weapon, defendants can face up to five years in prison, probation, and financial penalties if convicted.
Florida’s criminal attempt statute also treats an “overt act” toward committing robbery as sufficient grounds for prosecution, even if the alleged theft is unsuccessful.
The arrest has drawn significant attention online because of Shabazz’s profile in the influencer boxing world. Fighting under the name DeenTheGreat, the Tampa native built a large following through social media and exhibition boxing events connected to the growing crossover boxing scene.
Since turning pro in 2022, he has competed in multiple Misfits Boxing events and earned victories over opponents including Walid Muhsein and David Fogarty before suffering his first recorded loss against Amado Vargas in Dubai last year.
