Daniel Curtis Lee is stepping up for a former castmate.

According to People, the actor and musician recently said he’s been directly helping Tylor Chase, his Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide co-star, after videos surfaced online showing Chase living unhoused in California.

Lee, 34, documented spending time with Chase, 36, including sharing a meal and helping him secure a hotel room during heavy rain and limited availability.

In one clip, Lee is seen walking Chase into the room and offering reassurance, telling him he believes in him and that they’ll keep working toward stability together.

Following the visit, Lee explained that he’s remained in contact, though communication has been inconsistent. “He’ll have a phone one day and then maybe not the next,” Lee said, noting that staying connected has been a challenge.

Still, he emphasized that he’s actively coordinating with others to figure out next steps, including exploring treatment options and longer-term support.

Lee also said he’s looking into creating a formal trust that would allow people to donate more systematically, rather than relying on scattered crowdfunding efforts. The goal, he explained, is to put systems in place that actually help Chase get back on his feet.

Other former child stars have also stepped in. Shaun Weiss, who has been open about his own past struggles with addiction and homelessness, shared that he and his team secured a bed for Chase at a detox facility, with plans for long-term treatment afterward.

“We have a place for him to go and get long-term treatment,” Weiss said, adding that the biggest hurdle has been locating Chase and getting him to accept help.

Chase played recurring character Martin Qwerly on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, which ran on Nickelodeon from 2004 to 2007. His last acting credit dates back to 2011.

In recent weeks, his situation has drawn renewed attention, prompting former castmates Devon Werkheiser and Lindsey Shaw to address the issue publicly on their podcast, acknowledging both their concern and the complexity of offering help when addiction and mental health challenges are involved.

Local authorities in Riverside have also confirmed ongoing interactions with Chase, saying officers regularly offer treatment resources, which he has so far declined.
