Chappell Roan appeared to send a pointed message from the stage at Lollapalooza Brazil, thanking her security team during her closing remarks—just one day after a public dispute involving Brazilian soccer star Jorginho drew widespread attention.
Performing in São Paulo on March 21, Roan marked the end of her current run of shows while addressing the crowd. “This is our 33rd show of our Damsels tour. I do not know when I’ll be going on tour again. So this is the last one, and it’s here. I’m so grateful,” she said.
She then singled out her team, adding, “Thank you to my crew, and my security, and everyone behind the scenes. This takes a lot of people.” The timing of the remarks, particularly the explicit mention of security, quickly fueled discussion online.
In a post shared to social media, the soccer star said his daughter—excited to see an artist she admired—briefly walked past Roan’s table to confirm her identity before returning to her seat without speaking.
He described what happened next as “completely disproportionate,” alleging that a security guard reprimanded his family and threatened to file a complaint with the hotel.
Jorginho said the incident left his daughter “extremely shaken,” adding that his experience with public life has taught him the importance of respecting fans. “It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans,” he wrote. He also emphasized that his daughter did not approach or interact with the singer directly.
The controversy escalated beyond social media when Rio de Janeiro’s mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, publicly weighed in. In a post on X, he stated that Roan would not be allowed to perform at the city-backed “Todo Mundo no Rio” concert series during his tenure, while also extending an invitation to Jorginho’s family.
Aside from the comments from the stage, Roan has not directly addressed the allegations.
According to Consequence of Sound, Roan’s Lollapalooza Brazil appearance was part of a larger South American festival run that included stops in Chile and Argentina alongside artists such as Sabrina Carpenter, Tyler, the Creator, and Lorde. The São Paulo performance marked the final show of her current tour.
