Tom Hanks, 69, recently joined the crowd for a performance by his son Chet Hanks, 35.
As reported by People, Chet performed at Stagecoach Festival on Saturday (April 25), as part of his country band, Something Out West. In a video circulating online, Chet’s Oscar-winning father was spotted in the crowd singing along to their track “You Better Run.”
“10 minutes into the show, I noticed him and freaked out honestly,” festivalgoer Keren Ashri told the publication. “I couldn’t believe he was standing right there next to me! He was enjoying watching his son. … I finally gathered the courage and went to introduce myself and said I’m a huge fan, and he was very kind and gracious.”
Tom previously starred in the music video for Something Out West’s “You Better Run,” in which Chet portrayed a character similar to Forrest Gump, for which his father won his second Academy Award for Best Actor. The video featured several other references to the beloved 1994 film, including a boat named “Jenny” and a cross-country run inspired by Gump’s run in the movie.
Chet, who was stuck in Colombia earlier this year, recently shared an Instagram video in which he jokingly asked if his parents are “proud” of him for his new song about cocaine and strippers. In the video, he previewed a song from Something Out West, which sees him reflecting on his previous behavior, leading to his mother, Rita Wilson, jumping in the comments to say that it gets her seal of approval.
