Chet Hanks, fresh off his return to the U.S. after being stuck in Colombia, has a question: Are his parents, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, “proud” of him for his new song about cocaine and strippers?
In a video shared to Instagram on Wednesday (March 25), the Running Point actor teased a new song from his country-inspired Something Out West project, seemingly titled “New Me.”
In the song, Hanks and his collaborator, Drew Arthur, offer an ode to a bygone lifestyle defined by “cocaine and strippers” and multi-day benders. This type of party-all-the-time behavior, as the song asserts, means that an apology is owed to those who experienced it firsthand.
“I’ve been soul searching,” Hanks sings in the track, adding that those familiar with his past likely have “some stories” to share about the “life and death of the party.”
When sharing the teaser, Hanks made sure to reference his famous mom and dad.
“Do you think my parents are proud of me for making this song or am I cooked?” he asked, spurring a quick reaction from his mother, Rita Wilson.
“This gets the Mama Seal of Approval,” wrote the Sleepless in Seattle and That Thing You Do! actress, who’s also a singer.
Something Out West, per Hanks, has “a shit ton of music” on the horizon. The group is also set to play the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California, next month.
Meanwhile, Hanks will soon be seen in the second season of Netflix’s Lakers-inspired series Running Point, led by Kate Hudson. New episodes debut next month.
