While discussing parenting with her sister Khloé Kardashian on her podcast, Kim Kardashian revealed that she’s been homeschooling her daughter, North West.
At around the 17-minute point of the latest episode of Khloé in Wonder Land, which can be seen above in full, Kim spoke about some of the scrutiny she’s received for letting North express herself. She said that she doesn’t try to pay attention to people judging her parenting from afar, and that she has a lot of rules for North, even if she encourages her to express herself. “She really is who she is and always has been that girl, and so, I nurture her,” she said, revealing that she’s homeschooled her 12-year-old daughter, whom she shares with ex-husband Kanye West.
“She is homeschooled, and a lot of it is me helping her do a lot of the teachings and the things that we do, a lot of realistic courses, things that she’s really into,” she explained. “Math. We’ll give budgets and we’ll go around we’ll get stuff and we’ll add it all up and subtract it all. She has a brand-building class, it’s an actual course and a curriculum, fully interactive learning.”
One course she’s done with her daughter, she revealed, was based on her interest in jewelry and crafts. “We made it a course and she has to do the web design, and she has to do the budgeting, and she has to go to the stores and get materials and sewing,” she continued. “We do full fashion courses. She goes, in the summers to, to FIT in New York and goes to fashion camp. [She] loves these more interactive experiences, and so, I nurture her. It’s a full-time job even for me and her teacher. I think people don’t realize that I’m with her and the kids 24/7.”
She said that she’s added “teacher” to her repertoire of jobs, because North wants her to be there with her during the courses. “I took the last six months off to be able to really do her courses and get the curriculum from her teachers and be there in the room with her,” she said. “It’s been a lot, and it’s been so fun to see her blossom and even, like, her music course at school… She’d do a regular music course and learn certain things. But at home, she’ll do an eight-hour music studio session where she’s producing and writing.”
Kim added that she checks her daughter's songwriting for spelling and grammar mistakes, considering it another part of her education. “I think they would be proud to see how smart she really is, and how creative she really is,” she said. “I can only dream that my children all find a passion and purpose as young as she has.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, she spoke about co-parenting with Ye and suggested that she’s been able to bond with her ex-husband again because of North’s interest in making music.
