Zahara Jolie-Pitt is officially filing to change her name.

According to documents reviewed by TMZ, the 21-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt filed for a name change with the Los Angeles Superior Court. She requested for her legal name to be Zahara Marley Jolie, effectively dropping “Pitt” from her last name.

The outlet added that Zahara did not specify any reasons for the change in her filing.

In Touch Weekly, the first to report on the matter, said Zahara made the filing on April 28. She is set to appear in court on Sept. 28 to share with a judge why she’s making the change.

There may have been signs of her feelings about the name ahead of the filing.

Zahara’s name was announced without “Pitt” when she walked on stage to accept her diploma at her graduation ceremony at Spelman College last month, per People.

A source allegedly connected to Angelina Jolie told TMZ that Brad Pitt did not reach out about getting a ticket to the graduation ceremony, and a separate source purportedly connected to Pitt told the outlet that he did not reach out because he has been estranged from his children.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016, but it was not finalized until December 2024.

Zahara was adopted from Ethiopia by Jolie in 2005, when she was seven months old, according to People. Pitt and Jolie began dating that same year, and Pitt filed to adopt Zahara the following year.

Zahara’s siblings, Shiloh, Maddox, and Vivienne, have all legally or otherwise publicly dropped “Pitt” from their last names.
