Steve Harvey on Lori Harvey’s Love Life: 'Any Boy That’s an Ex, He’s Now My Ex Too'

The comedian, who admits it's been tough watching his daughter dating in the spotlight, says he has to cut ties with her exes as well.

Steve Harvey says when it comes to Lori Harvey’s love life, her exes automatically become his exes too.

The 68-year-old comedian and TV personality made the comments on Tuesday’s episode of The Pivot podcast while opening up about his 28-year-old daughter’s highly publicized love life.

At the 55-minute mark in the video linked above, Steve explained that it hasn’t been easy watching her date in the public eye.

“It's hard, man. I ain't gonna lie, it's hard. I've had to swallow some things, you know? And I feel for her because she's in the public,” Steve said, before pointing to her work as a brand ambassador and influencer.

However, he explained that once Lori moves from a relationship, apparently he has to as well.

“See, I gotta be real careful cause Lori, boy, she be in my ass. I can't make no mistakes… I saw one of [her] exes somewhere at a game somewhere and I shook his hand. Well, I can't even touch him no more. I better not acknowledge him or look at him or nothing no more. So I'm off limits,” he added. “If you a ex, your ass is my ex too. The rule in our house is: any boy that's an ex, he's now my ex too. I must hate him like we was dating.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Steve acknowledged his role as a protector and an example of love for his children.

“As their father, I'm their protector. I'm their example of what love looks like towards their mother. So how I treat their mother is very important because they looking at it and they see it. So, that's why I always try to be a great example for them.”

He also noted that every young man who came to his house to date one of his daughters heard the same warning, “If you put your hand on her, I will find you. And I am going to do some things to you that’s going to be ungodly.”

Steve then recalled a story about Lori’s junior prom when she was 15, saying he had “nothing but pure hatred” for the 16-year-old boy. Despite Steve insisting that the boy bring his daughter back home by 10:30 p.m., the boy tried to explain there would be an afterparty upstairs at the same hotel hosting the prom at 11.

“Boy, there’s no chance of me OK-ing no stuff like this,” Steve recalled telling the young man before making another one of his terms clear. “I said, ‘Just know this, whatever you do to her, I'm gonna do to you.’" I said, ‘So if I look outside and y'all kissing real hard, when you come in here, me and you gonna kiss real hard.’”

Steve Harvey has seven children. Per People, with his first wife, Marcia, Steve shares twin daughters Brandi and Karli, 40, and son Broderick Jr., 31. He had son Wynton, 28, with his second wife, Mary. After marrying Marjorie in 2007, he adopted three children: Morgan, 40, Jason, 31, and Lori, 28.
