‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Reboot Teaser Reunites Frankie Muniz and Bryan Cranston

The trailer shows adult Malcolm pulled back to his chaotic family after years of avoiding them.

The first teaser for the Malcolm in the Middle reboot is here.

Viewers got the first look at the four-part series Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair on Monday (Dec. 29). The trailer shows Frankie Muniz returning as an adult Malcolm who claims his life “is fantastic now” and that all he had to do “was stay away from my family.”

The teaser reveals that Malcolm has spent the last decade hiding from his parents Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), plus his siblings Francis (Christopher Masterson), Reese (Justin Berfield), Dewey (Caleb Ellsworth-Clark), Jamie (Anthony Timpano), and Kelly (Vaughan Murrae).

It's also revealed that Malcolm has been raising a daughter named Leah (Keeley Karsten).

Malcolm's attempt at peace unravels when he is invited to his parents' 40th wedding anniversary. His girlfriend Tristan (Kiana Madeira) attempts to intervene, saying, "You can't spend the rest of your life hiding and denying your family even exists."

"It worked perfectly until they showed up," Malcolm replies.

The original Malcolm in the Middle series aired on Fox from 2000 to 2006 for seven seasons. All main cast members are returning for the four-part reboot except Erik Per Sullivan, who retired from acting in 2010.

Muniz told the New York Post last month that the revival had been discussed for years.

"We started talking about doing the reboot over 10 years ago. And then Bryan Cranston really kind of took the lead in pushing it,” he said. “But early on, we sent out an email, me and Bryan, to everybody kind of saying like, 'Hey, if this happened, would you guys be interested?' Just to gauge."

He added, "It's rare that you get another chance at something, right? Also to be 20 years later and know the impact that the show had on people all around the world. You go into it with a greater appreciation, but also know that people are really going to love it.

"Normally when you make a movie or TV show, you don't know if people are going to like it or if it's going to be good," he added. "So I think we made a show that people are going to love."
