KPop Demon Hunters screenwriters Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan are already tapped for a new project.
According to Variety, the screenwriting duo have signed on to write Tim Burton's reimagining of the 1958 science fiction horror film Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman for Warner Bros. Pictures.
Burton is set to direct and produce alongside Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. It was also reported that Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) had written an earlier draft of the script.
The updated film centers on a wealthy heiress who becomes a giant after an alien encounter and seeks revenge on her unfaithful husband.
LuckyChap, the production company led by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, will produce and develop the project with Morgan Begg overseeing and Kai Dolbashian serving as executive producer.
Jimenez and McMechan, named to Variety's 10 Screenwriters to Watch for 2025 after the success of Sony Animation and Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters, met at Loyola Marymount University and developed that film after a Sundance Feature Lab connection.
"We started writing that in 2020 during the pandemic,” Jimenez told Variety last October. “At first, we were like, 'This is going to be the biggest movie ever, and then as time passed, we were like, 'Maybe it won't get made. Who knows?' And then we were on set this summer and the trailer dropped and we were shocked. You don't really expect anything from this career. You're just grateful to get paid and if something happens with it, that's great."
McMechan added, "This was truly the first time where there was all this manpower behind it, and it felt like it was on track to being made."
Since its release last summer, КРор Demon Hunters has become Netflix's most watched film of all time. Its soundtrack has broken Billboard records, earned five Grammy nominations including Song of the Year, with “Golden” being shortlisted for the 98th Academy Awards in the Original Song category. The film also recently picked up three Golden Globe nominations. A sequel is reportedly set to arrive in 2029.
