Gabrielle Union recalled a messy red carpet moment that became an unexpected source of inspiration.
In a new interview with People during her 2025 “World’s Most Beautiful” shoot, the actress looked back at past red carpet appearances with her 6-year-old daughter, Kaavia James.
In one photo from the 2019 Kids Choice Sports Awards, an eight-month-old Kaavia is seen posing with Union and her husband Dwyane Wade.
Union asked her daughter, “You know what happened on this carpet right here? You peed on us.”
She went on to explain that the event marked Kaavia’s first red carpet appearance and served as the inspiration for a company she founded with Wade later on.
“Your diaper did not hold,” she said. “It did not hold, which is one of the reasons Mommy and Daddy created Proudly, so parents don't get peed on — on red carpets.”
The company, founded by the couple in 2021, sells baby diapers and wipes as well as skin care and hair care products “for melanated skin.”
