A new Wonder Woman movie is in the works, according to a report from TheWrap.
On Monday, July 21, the outlet reported that screenwriter Ana Nogueira is set to pen the new screenplay. The news comes just over a month after DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn announced that a new Wonder Woman film was being written, alongside an already-announced HBO series called Paradise Island. Paradise Island, which focuses on Wonder Woman’s homeland of Themyscira. According to Gunn, development on these projects is “slow moving, but it’s moving.”
The last iteration of Wonder Woman was played by Gal Gadot and made her debut in 2017’s Wonder Woman. She also appeared in the 2017 iteration of Justice League and the 2021 Zach Snyder cut. Gadot reprised the role in 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984, which was unfortunately met with negative reviews.
Patty Jenkins — who directed both Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 — was set to develop a third movie alongside Gadot, which would take place in present day. But when Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, they decided to reboot the Wonder Woman character with a whole new approach. This new take on Wonder Woman comes as part of the new phase of the DC cinematic universe.
Additionally, Nogueira wrote the upcoming Supergirl movie, which is set to premiere in theaters on June 26, 2026. Fans got to see actress Milly Alcock in action as Supergirl — cousin of David Corenswet’s Superman — in Superman earlier this month. At the time of writing, there is no director attached to the upcoming Wonder Woman movie, nor has a cast been announced.
Some of Nogueira’s acting credits include The Vampire Diaries, The Blacklist, and Blue Bloods. In addition to Wonder Woman and Supergirl, Nogueira is also attached to an upcoming Teen Titans movie.
