The Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center may be a bit short-staffed in the upcoming third season of The Pitt.
Just months after Supriya Ganesh — who played Dr. Samira Mohan on The Pitt’s first two seasons — was reported to depart from the Emmy-winning series, another one of the show’s beloved actors has announced that their character will receive less screen time in Season 3.
In an interview with Bustle published on Tuesday, June 9, actress Shabana Azeez revealed that her character, Dr. Victoria Javadi, will not return to the trauma center. This doesn’t mean she’s leaving the series, however, viewers will see Javadi take on a new role in a new department.
"I can say that I’m not in the ER this season," said Azeez. "I’ve done my ER rotation, so I’m doing my psychiatry rotation.”
Azeez continued, noting that Javadi’s new role is “a very different vibe.”
“I’m scared and nervous,” Azeez said. “But it’s an honor to be able to show that part of medicine.”
When viewers were first introduced to Javadi in Season 1, she was a 20-year-old medical student. Season 2 takes place just days before Javadi’s 21st birthday, and she’s conflicted about how she wants to move forward in her career. While Javadi is determined to prove to her peers — and her mother, general surgeon Dr. Eileen Shamsi (Deepti Gupta) — that she can handle working in the ER, many people around her suggest that she goes into mental health.
By the Season 2 finale, Javadi feels completely burnt out by the trauma center.
“The more time I spend here, the more I realize the importance of mental health — for patients and for us,” said Javadi to her coworker Dr. Dennis Whitaker (Gerran Howell).
Each season of The Pitt takes place over 15 episodes, each one detailing an hour into a 15-hour work day. Season 1 takes place in the fall and Season 2 is set during fourth of July weekend. Season 3 is set to take place in November, with patients expected to get into all sorts of holiday-related mishaps.
Production is currently underway on Season 3, which is expected to premiere January 2027 on HBO Max.
