Fans of Taraji P. Henson can soon look forward to seeing more of her on their screens. The Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner has signed a two-picture deal with Netflix, according to a report from Deadline.

According to the report — which was published Monday, October 20 — Henson will also serve as a producer on each project under her production company TPH Entertainment. The deal comes following the success of Tyler Perry’s Straw, which premiered this past June and saw Henson depicting a day in the life of a struggling mother navigating poverty. This role marked Henson’s first lead in a Netflix original. The movie has since pulled in over 106.3 million views.

“Partnering with Netflix on this two-picture deal is an exciting new chapter for me”, said Henson. “I’ve always believed that storytelling has the ability to inspire, heal, and celebrate our shared humanity. With a partner like Netflix, I have the opportunity to do that on a global stage. I’m grateful for their trust in me as we start this new journey together.”

In addition to her new deal, Henson is also set to star in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?, the upcoming third installment of his Why Did I Get Married? series. Perry himself signed a multi-year first-look deal with Netflix back in February 2024.

Outside of film, Henson is set to make her Broadway debut next spring in Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, in which she will star alongside Cedric the Entertainer. The play will be directed by prolific director Debbie Allen, who recently made headlines of her own as a Barbie Tribute doll was recently crafted in her likeness.

It looks like Henson is booked and busy, as she’s building an empire of her own.
