'Men in Black' Actor Rip Torn Dead at 88

Torn was known for his roles as Zed in 'Men in Black' and Artie on HBO's 'The Larry Sanders Show.'

Rip Torn, born Elmore Rual Torn Jr. in Temple, Texas, has died. He was 88. The Emmy award winning actor passed away at his Lakeville, Connecticut home with his family by his side, Deadline reports.

Torn, who has appeared in dozens of films, television shows, and Broadway plays, was known for his roles as Zed in the first and second installments of Men in Black, Artie on HBO's The Larry Sanders Show, and Patches O'Houlihan in DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story. Torn also played the character of Don Geiss on NBC's 30 Rock, Lionel Banks on Will & Grace, and voiced Zeus in Walt Disney's 1997 animated film Hercules.

Other movies Torn acted in include Sweet Bird of Youth (1962), The Cincinnati Kid (1965), Payday (1972), RoboCop 3 (1993), For Better or Worse (1995)The Insider (1999), and Freddy Got Fingered (2001). Torn was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as Marsh Turner in the 1984 film Cross Creek and was nominated for six Emmys for his part in The Larry Sanders Show. The actor made his film debut in the 1956 movie Baby Doll.

Torn had six children and was married three times.
