The cause of death for rapper Luci4 has been released.
TMZ reports that the rising rapper, born James Dear, passed away from an accidental fentanyl overdose, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
Luci4, known for his viral hit “BodyPartz,” died on Feb. 22. That morning, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical call at the home of one of the rapper’s friends and discovered he had already passed away.
His manager, Kayla G, posted a tribute to him on her Instagram Stories that same day. In one post, she shared a photo of red roses with a message that read: “The flowers you gave me and the songs you dedicated to me will always weigh so heavy in my heart. I’ll love you forever, axxturel."
In a separate post, Kayla explained how becoming Luci4’s manager was the best decision she ever made. "We were inseparable. And we will forever be bonded together. I’ll see you soon king," she wrote.
Once his death was confirmed, his grandparents revealed that they were suspicious because his wallet was “completely emptied,” and they’d attempted to warn him about “the people he’d been spending time with as his fame started taking off.”
Luci4 rose to prominence as the creator of the niche trap music genre “sigilkore.” After he blew up on TikTok in 2021, he signed a record deal with Atlantic Records. His breakout song, “BodyPartz,” is still his biggest track to date.
