Lil Durk has issued a message to fans, sharing with them his new mindset as he sits in federal custody waiting for his murder-for-hire trial to start.
On Tuesday (March 31), the incarcerated rapper shared a minute-long voice message to fans on social media, extending a warm greeting and letting them know what he’s been doing while locked behind bars.
"I just want to give y’all an update on my mental, my mind state," he began his message. "I’ve just been reading these books, working on my patience."
The rapper (real name Durk Banks) then revealed what he's been reading while locked up, including Pawns in the Game by William Guy Carr, which is a book about the conspiracy to establish one government to rule the world. Durk also mentioned the works of activists Fred Hampton, Elaine Brown, and Huey P. Newton.
After explaining his respect for these revolutionary figures, Durk expressed his intent to help kids out by changing his message. "It’s just been sitting on my heart lately to save the generation, bro," he said. "Save these kids. I’m just tired of being a pawn for the culture. Entertaining and being ignorant."
Durk ended his message by reiterating the importance of being a positive influence in the lives of kids. "We got to be their heroes," he said. "They got to look up to us in a positive way."
Lil Durk is currently incarcerated until his murder-for-hire trial — relating to the death of Savaiy’a Robinson — begins on August 20. The case was previously scheduled to begin in April, but the timeline shifted due to the court weighing motions and logistical considerations for multiple defendants.
Earlier this month, Brian Steel, who previously represented Young Thug in his racketeering trial, joined Lil Durk’s legal team. Steel, who even got a shoutout on Drake and PartyNextDoor’s $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, replaced attorney Jonathan M. Brayman on Durk’s case.
