Ebro Darden Theorizes Hot 97 Show Was Canceled Over His ‘Anti-Netanyahu’ and ‘Progressive’ Views

He believes the cancellation is tied to casino licenses and his outspoken commentary.

Ebro Darden thinks he knows the reason why his show Ebro In The Morning on Hot 97 got canceled.

Darden revealed his thoughts about the situation in a video he shared while sitting in his car. “You look around at all the major media outlets… they all gotta fold up because they're all trying to renew their deals and their licenses,” he said.

Then, Darden made a more specific claim about the person who owns the radio station. “Bro’s a casino owner. You know the three licenses they got in NY for the casino? The guy that owns the shit owns one of the casino licenses,” Darden said. “He gotta raise half a billion dollars. They need my shit talking, anti-Netanyahu, anti-government, progressive shit out of the way, bro. They need me out of the way.”

“They are trying to get to these bags that these VCs got and raise some capital,” Darden continued. “They don’t give a fuck about hip hop or black music or black community. They give a fuck about access. They give a fuck about going with their little nerdy friends to the concerts because that helps them raise money. They’ve been trying to get to me for years, bro.”

Earlier today, Ebro announced on X that his show was finished. "It's done. More to come. #EbroInTheMorning," he wrote. After that, Peter Rosenberg, who was a cohost on the show, shared his own message about the situation.

“I lived out a childhood dream and it was amazing,” wrote Rosenberg. “Very excited for what’s next #ebrointhemorning #reallate.”

Ebro in the Morning had been on air since 2012, when Darden returned to the morning time slot after he previously occupied it from 2004 to 2007.

Earlier this year, Darden started dropping hints that he thought his show was on the chopping block after Funkmaster Flex changed time slots.

“They’re going to start,” said Darden. “This program right here, the amount of money they spend — which ain’t a lot, but it’s more than they spend on the rest of the radio station — when they get to cutting off fingers and toes up here? It’s going to happen bro. Don’t play with these people, man.”
