DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia reminded the world just how influential and ingrained in hip-hop culture that the legendary group is by posting the latest gold and platinum plaques he’s received in the mail.
The legendary artist shared a video to Instagram showing a room covered in these plaques that signify the group’s contributions to highly successful albums such as Lil Baby’s My Turn, Ludacris’ Chicken & Beer album and Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds
DJ Paul also shared plaques for the songs “All That” by Moneybagg Yo and “Death” by Trippie Redd — the latter being the cause of a lawsuit from Reginald Boyland of On The Strength Records who alleged that the track samples Three 6 Mafia’s “Hit a Muthafucka’ and Paul no longer owns the rights.
Plaques for other artists’ songs aren’t all that he shared. Paul revealed two plaques for Three 6 Mafia projects — Chapter 2: World Domination and Most Known Hits.
In the caption for the video, DJ Paul revealed just how many plaques he now has in storage. “Just Got Another 28 Mill or So In Plaques!” he wrote. “Literally putting them in different homes now cause i have over 100 Plaques‼️
Three 6 Mafia continues to be a major influence on the hip-hop industry. Their debut album Mystic Stylez in 1995 would set the stage for horrorcore themes and haunting soundscapes to begin being incorporated into a new subset of hip-hop.
Over the years, the group has released nine studio albums, two subgroup albums, two posse albums, and two collaborative albums. They also won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp,” from the movie Hustle & Flow.
To this day, Three 6 Mafia’s music continues to get sampled because of their popularity. Last year, Glorilla released the track “Lick or Sum” that samples the song “Slob on My Knob” from the subgroup Tear Da Club Up Thugs that included DJ Paul, Juicy J, and Lord Infamous.
