In a stroke of very unfortunate luck, RM of BTS has injured himself ahead of their massive comeback concert.
The K-pop group’s record label BigHit announced the news on Weverse, explaining that the 31-year-old performer was taken to a nearby hospital after injuring his ankle. According to BigHit’s announcement, RM has “a sprain of the accessory navicular, a partial ligament tear, and a talus contusion” and he’s been advised to wear a cast and limit his movement for at least two weeks.
“While RM expressed a firm commitment to deliver a high-quality performance at this symbolic comeback stage at Gwanghwamun, the company, in close consultation with the artist, has made the decision to prioritize the medical opinion to preemptively prevent any further strain on his injury,” continued BigHit’s announcement. “Accordingly, RM’s on-stage performance, including choreography, will be partially limited.”
BigHit concluded its statement thanking fans for understanding their situation. “We sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause, given the high anticipation surrounding this performance,” the statement reads. “Although RM’s on-stage performance will inevitably be limited, he will do his best to participate on stage and engage with ARMY and the audience. We know you have waited a long time for this performance, and we will put our utmost effort into delivering a heartfelt show.”
RM’s injury couldn’t come at a worse time as he and the rest of BTS geared up for their highly-anticipated comeback concert on Netflix.
The special show, called “BTS The Comeback Live: Arirang” is set to stream live on Netflix on Mar. 21, from Seoul, South Korea. It will be the group’s first show in almost four years after its seven members finished their mandatory military service.
If that’s not enough, BTS’ first album in six years, Arirang, came out on Mar. 20. The group will be embarking on a massive comeback tour next month in support of the LP. It kicks off on Apr. 9 at the Goyang Stadium in South Korea and continues for nearly a year before wrapping up on Mar. 14 in Manila, Philippines at an unannounced venue.
