ASAP Rocky hit the Saturday Night Live stage last night (Jan. 18) for his musical debut on the show. He performed three tracks from his recently released album, Don’t Be Dumb.
The first of Rocky’s performances was for “Punk Rocky,” featuring him practically rioting with a bunch of people on stage in front of a garage.
When he returned to the stage, Rocky performed the Don’t Be Dumb title track in front of a podium full of microphones like a press conference. The softer song featured harmonizing from a trio of singers.
Finally, Rocky abruptly switched to “Helicopter” after unbuttoning his jacket and bringing about a dozen guys to swing t-shirts around in a circle, giving us a taste of the tour antics to come.
Rocky also appeared in an SNL sketch on the same episode, in which he appeared on a podcast about snacks with surprise guest Sabrina Carpenter.
Don’t Be Dumb came out on Jan. 16. It’s Rocky’s first album in eight years following 2018’s Testing, arriving after several major delays due to leaks. The album, with its cover created by Tim Burton, features appearances from Doechii, Will.i.am, Tyler, the Creator and more.
Ahead of the album’s release, Rocky released the “Punk Rocky” music video starring Winona Ryder. He’d previously teased her starring in the video through an Instagram post on Jan. 2.
