Young Guru is making it clear that he’s no longer interested in leading with humility, arguing that he’s “one of the best ever.”
The Grammy-winning recording engineer, whose catalog includes work with Jay-Z and the artist formerly known as Kanye West, pointed to the length of his career when making the statement in a post shared to his Instagram Stories.
“No more humble ‘Guru,’” he wrote, as seen below. “I tried it your way. I'm about to remind you. I thought it was corny to brag but y’all don't respect nothing else. You talking but can't see my career!!! You have one record. Bro I was doing that every week!!! 25 years ago. And I'm still doing it now!!! I'm one of the best ever!!!!”
It wasn’t immediately clear who or what, exactly, spurred Guru’s IG-delivered remarks, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating.
Back in March, Guru appeared to signal that he would be joining Jay at this year’s Roots Picnic for a headlining set with The Roots. For a full rundown of everything you need to know about the much-hyped performance, including ticket info, see here.
More recently, Guru has been dropping knowledge on the history of the MPC, as well as giving his IG followers an inside look at his fondness for intentionally buying “broken gear.” On the latter point, Guru emphasized the power of learning “how to build things” on one’s own.
