Dame Dash has shared a pretty bold take, claiming that Kanye West has a better discography of music than his former business partner Jay-Z.
In a new interview with The Art of Dialogue, the former Roc-A-Fella Records mogul was asked his opinion on who out of his two ex-artists had the edge musically.
"Kanye destroys Jay," he said without hesitation. "Kanye destroys Jay. It's not even the same class. You know what I mean? As far as artistry goes and being creative and all the verticals that are stimulated, and the people, no one wants to dress like — Jay can't do a clothing line."
Going on to call Ye "unstoppable," Dash compared the two artists' individual movements. "Kanye don't need nobody to fill an arena," he said. "This n***a just stands up there and just, he don't even have to rap. He just does listening sessions in a stadium.
"Kanye is different and he's bipolar…He's pure art. The world should be so grateful for Kanye's presence because he keeps things so interesting. The world would be so boring without Kanye. It's like Van Gogh. Like any minute he could cut his ear off while he's painting, but it's always art. Kanye is an artist."
Turning his attention to why he doesn't think Jay-Z can hold a candle to Kanye, Dash said: "Jay's not an artist. Jay's a com… Well, I'm not going to say that. Allegedly. I would say Jay's just more of a — he's cunning, and he doesn't mind playing with the devil."
It's worth noting that Dame Dash and Jay-Z have been at odds with one another for over a decade, ever since the disbanding of Roc-A-Fella Records, the label the pair co-founded alongside Kareem "Biggs" Burke.
In another recent interview, Dash shut down a long-circulating rumor about his relationship with Aaliyah, firmly denying claims that he dated the late singer after Jay-Z did.
"He did not [date her]. He was trying her," Dash said on the YouTube series POV. "Everybody put they bid in. I’m going to tell you right now. As a man, I’m never, ever ever wifing a girl that any of my friends smashed. It’s not happening."
Dash explained that media reports and long-standing speculation have distorted what actually happened. According to him, neither he nor Jay-Z had a relationship with Aaliyah at the time they were both pursuing her.
Meanwhile, French Montana and Rick Ross are next up on the VERZUZ stage, following Tank and Tyrese’s "Turtleneck"-spurring appearance back in March.
Taking place on May 7 at 9:30 p.m. ET, you can stream the event on Apple Music.
