Corey Taylor, he of Slipknot and Stone Sour and telling mgk to “suck every inch of my dick,” recently covered a small portion of Kendrick Lamar’s meme-spurring “TV Off.” The song, off Kendrick’s 2024 album GNX, is currently hanging out at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“I put something together very special,” Taylor told the crowd at a recent acoustic performance as part of the Spookala convention in Florida. “I tried to change this up because I don’t really do this a lot anymore so I wanted to do something special and get something that was kind of like a singalong. I’d like to know, would you guys like to help me sing a song? Alright, this first one is not by me but if you know it, help me sing along.”

Taylor, as seen in the @tonycadwell13-shared clip above and/or the full performance video below, then launched into the intro lines of Kendrick’s “TV Off,” like so: “All I ever wanted was a black Grand National/Fuck being rational.” He then interrupted himself before moving on to a different cover, i.e. a rendition of Violent Femmes’ “Add It Up” track.

“No, wait, no. That’s not it,” Taylor joked before transitioning into some Femmes. “But that’s a dope fucking track.”

Other covers featured in Corey’s solo set included songs originally performed by Nine Inch Nails, Incubus, Foo Fighters, and Chappell Roan. See a recording of the full set above.

Slipknot will be back on the road starting in June with a headlining slot at Sweden Rock. The band is also leading the bill for Germany’s Rock Im Park and Rock Am Ring, as well as Heavy Weekend in France and Rock for People in the Czech Republic.

As for fans here in the States, the band has strongly suggested that its Inkcarceration Festival set in July will be its lone U.S. tour stop for the year. Kendrick, meanwhile, is currently out on the road with SZA on a stadium run.
