Pomme on Ye Sampling Her in Recent Snippet: 'Never Given My Consent'

"I have never given my consent for the use of this sample for reasons that seem obvious to me," the French artist said.

An artist whose song was sampled in a recent Ye snippet, presumably stemming from Bully sessions, has spoken out against the track’s repurposing of her work.

In a statement shared to Instagram, French singer Claire Pommet, better known as Pomme, addressed the unreleased Ye track’s sampling of her “Soleil Soleil,” a song off her 2019 album Les Failles. According to Pomme, Ye’s team did not get permission for the sample in question. In the statement, Pomme referred to the widely shared snippet as “a potential use” of her song.

“I do not know the source of the video and audio content that is circulating these days on social media, but I have never given my consent for the use of this sample for reasons that seem obvious to me, being in deep disagreement with the political positions of this artist that I have nevertheless admired in the past,” Pomme said of Ye, who praised Hitler in a 2022 interview with Alex Jones.

Fans will recall that the Bully rollout is not unique in its sampling-related woes, as “Carnival,” off last year’s initial Vultures entry, was publicly slammed by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. While an earlier version of the Grammy-nominated song sampled a live version of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man,” the final version swapped in Ye’s “Iron Man”-nodding MBDTF cut “Hell of a Life.”

Per Ozzy, Ye’s request for permission to use the live version of “Iron Man” on “Carnival” was turned down “because he is an antisemite and has caused untold heartache to many.”

A release date for Bully hasn't been set, at least not publicly. The project is expected to be an entirely Ye-focused and Ye-produced release, unlike his and Ty's pair of Vultures albums from last year.
