Oliver Tree’s girlfriend, stylist Fiona Chernavskaya, is asking the general public to “please have some respect” following the Love You Madly Hate You Badly artist’s tragic death in a helicopter crash in Brazil this past weekend.
In a post shared to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday (June 17), Chernavskaya first thanked everyone who had offered “kind words” in the days since the fatal crash.
“Thank you for all the kind words,” Chernavskaya, who also shared photos and clips of her and Tree together, wrote on IG. “I appreciate every ounce of support at this time. There are so many who have been affected by his passing. Please show them love too.”
Chernavskaya then turned her attention to those who have responded to her partner’s untimely death by spreading “gossip about other women” on social media, urging them to instead “have some respect” for her and what she’s going through.
“And please have some respect for my privacy,” she added. “We kept our relationship very intimate. What I really don't need is to see gossip about other women that Oliver may have been seeing. We were monogamous. Right now, I’m mourning my partner and best friend. Anything else is unimportant. Please have some respect.”
In a previous statement, Chernavskaya, co-founder of the Zmeika brand, remembered the “Alien Boy” and “Life Goes On” singer as her “best friend” when recalling the touching sentiment he used to express during their arguments.
“The magic, inspiration, and joy you brought to my life and others, will never be forgotten or replaced,” she wrote. “You’d always tell me when we argued, if things don’t work out in this lifetime, you will find me in the next. I love you, buggy.”
Melanie Martinez, Kid Cudi, Bebe Rexha, and other fellow artists have also expressed shock at news of Tree’s death. Cudi, for example, told fans he had spoken with the Santa Cruz-born Atlantic Records alum only “a few weeks” earlier, calling his death “heartbreaking.”
Love You Madly Hate You Badly, the final Oliver Tree album to be released during his lifetime, arrived in April. Unlike his previous studio full-lengths, including 2020’s formal debut Ugly Is Beautiful, the project did not carry the Atlantic banner and was instead released independently.
“This is the album I fought the hardest for,” Tree told fans ahead of LYMHYB’s release.
At the time of his death, Tree was in the early days of a planned world tour.
RIP.
