Kodak Black turned 29 this week, and he opted to mark the moment with a surprise-released mixtape.
The project, dubbed Kodak The Blessing, finds Kodak enlisting fellow South Florida artist 1900Rugrat, among other collaborators, across its 26 new tracks. In tandem with the tape’s streaming arrival, fans are also getting an official video for the Rugrat-featuring “Nunchucks,” directed by Kodak himself.
Listen to Kodak The Blessing—also featuring Fridayy, G Thugg, Shadea Charai, Albee Al, Reese Youngn, Rylo Rodriguez, and Lil Crix—here via Vulture Love and Capitol Records.
The Rugrat appearance is noteworthy for more than one reason, including the fact that he shouted out Kodak as an early influence in an interview with Dimas Sanfiorenzo for Complex last year.
“I always listen to Chief Keef,” Rugrat, born Miles Spiel, said at the time. “I grew up on Lil Wayne but at that time—it was like 2016—I was really fucking with Kodak, Yachty, Lil Uzi [Vert], all the shit that was really popping at that time that everybody was bumping. I ain't find my music taste at that point. But I always fucked with Sosa.”
Friday (June 12), Kodak is celebrating his new mixtape with a listening party event at Mr Jones, a nightclub in the Miami Beach area. The celebration continues Sunday (June 14), with Kodak and company taking the party to LIV.
The Blessing tape comes less than a year after Just Getting Started, which counted Pharrell among its roster of special guests. Revisit the project here.
