Footage Shows Gunna in Good Spirits While Speaking to Godson From Jail

Footage has surfaced showing Gunna speaking to family while still in jail amid continued coverage of the widely criticized YSL case.

In the brief clip, which was been shared by multiple accounts in recent days, Gunna is seen joking with a young child widely referred to in multiple reports as his godson. Gunna, who was recently reported to have been denied bond again, smiles throughout the video.

According to a report earlier this month from regional outlet 11Alive, Gunna is expected to remain behind bars until the projected January 2023 trial start date following the 56-count RICO indictment focused on Young Stoner Life Records. Gunna has now been denied bond twice, with the prior instance having occurred during a hearing in May.

Also in May, Gunna was reported to have pleaded not guilty to his charge of violating Georgia’s state law on racketeering.

In an Instagram note in June, Gunna noted my “country’s amendments have failed me” while pushing back against the “ugly and untrue” image he says is being painted of him.

“As a Black Man in America, it seems as though my art is only acceptable when I’m a source of entertainment for the masses,” he wrote. “My art is not allowed to stand alone as entertainment, I’m not allowed that freedom as a Black Man in America. It is a sad reality that slavery is still alive in America today and still affecting my people.”

As coverage of the case has continued, so too has support of the recently launched Protect Black Art petition, which Young Thug himself urged fans to sign in a video message played for Hot 97’s Summer Jam attendees. In short, the petition—more info on which can be found here—aims to protect artists from having their lyrics used against them in criminal proceedings.
