In a virtual appearance in court on Thursday, Gunna was denied bond again amid the sweeping 56-count RICO indictment against Young Stoner Life Records.

Per 11Alive, Gunna was not granted bond and is expected to remain in jail until the January 2023 trial date. He was first denied bail on May 23 by a Fulton County judge. His attorneys contend there’s nothing indicating their client needs to remain behind bars until trial, but the judge argued Gunna poses a threat and could intimidate potential witnesses. In comparison to Young Thug, who is at the center of the RICO indictment, Gunna is only facing one count of conspiracy to violate RICO.

The bond denial comes one day after prosecutors in the case alleged Thug and his YSL associates had made “numerous threats to kill or harm witnesses,” per the New York Times. According to a motion filed this week, prosecutors said witnesses claimed they had been intimidated, causing them to "fear not only for their own lives, but for their families’ lives should they testify.”

Defense attorneys have denied accusations that anyone attempted to intimidate witnesses. The motion also detailed that a family member of one of the 27 defendants in the case reportedly threatened Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat and his wife, writing “#freethug or Imma sh00t u and your wife” on an undisclosed social media profile. Alleged YSL collective co-founder Walter Murphy was denied bond last month.

In an open letter shared from behind bars, Gunna proclaimed his innocence and said he is being “falsely accused.” He also emphasized that the picture “being painted of me is ugly and untrue.”
