Diplo Recruits Kodak Black and Koe Wetzel for New Song and Video “Wasted”

According to Diplo, the new song began taking shape during sessions with Kodak in Miami. The track's video was shot in the Everglades region of Florida.

Diplo’s latest song, per the producer and DJ’s own words, marks “the next chapter of Thomas Wesley.”

The track, titled “Wasted,” sees Diplo enlisting Kodak Black and Koe Wetzel for a rumination on the ups and downs of intoxication atop a foundation that’s equal parts rock and country.

According to Diplo, the song began during sessions in Miami with Kodak, specifically an iPhone recording of him singing what became “Wasted” while he “batted a beat on his chest.” From there, Diplo says he built the beat out from that iPhone capture, later bringing in Wetzel to finish the song.

Diplo last went the Thomas Wesley route with his 2020 project Chapter 1: Snake Oil, which included appearances from Orville Peck, Young Thug, and more. His most recent album is last year’s self-titled effort, singles form which included “Don’t Forget My Love” with Miguel.

Kodak, meanwhile, is currently fresh off the release of the new Gucci Mane collab “King Snipe.” In December, Kodak and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie reteamed for a sequel to their 2017 pairing “Drowning.” Revisit that here.

Later this year, Koe Wetzel will join Eric Church as one of the opening acts on his Outsiders Revival tour. Other artists set to open for Church on the amphitheater-focused trek include Morgan Wade, Lainey Wilson, Elle King, Hailey Whitters, Red Clay Strays, and more.
