Max B abruptly walked off a Complex interview after discovering he was not included on the outlet’s list of the 50 best New York rappers of all time.

The Harlem rapper appeared alongside French Montana during an episode of Complex’s Re-Rank series when the conversation shifted toward the publication’s all-time New York MC rankings. Things quickly went left once Max realized his name was nowhere on the list.

“I don’t even see my name up there,” Max said during the segment. “Now you know I’m putting my name on top. That’s crazy. You ain’t got The Don up there. You think all them n***as better than me?”

Host Jordan Rose then began reading off names included on the ranking, including Mos Def, MF DOOM, Ghostface Killah, and Prodigy, among others, but Max wasn’t trying to hear any of it.

“I’m finished with this interview, we outta here, Montana,” he said before standing up and walking off set.

While French Montana and Rose initially laughed at the situation, Max appeared genuinely irritated as he continued talking while leaving.

“I’m getting sleepy in this motherfucker anyway,” Max added. “See me back at the hotel. We run New York n***a, don’t talk.”

According to the episode, roughly 45 minutes passed before Rose returned and revealed that Max had still not come back to continue filming, while French attempted to convince him to return to the set.

French also defended his collaborator during the moment, saying, “Not having Max on there is crazy.”

Though he never reached the same commercial heights as some of the names mentioned during the segment, Max remains one of the most influential cult figures in modern hip-hop. Known for his more melodic style than some of his counterparts, Max heavily influenced an entire generation of artists, including French Montana, ASAP Rocky, and even Drake.

The moment comes as Max B and French Montana continue promoting their new collaborative project Wave Gods 2: Cosmos Brothers, marking another chapter in their longtime musical partnership and their second since Max’s release from prison in 2025.
