New details are emerging in the murder case of Julio Foolio, after prosecutors described a disturbing moment captured on video involving one of the accused, WFLA reports.
During a recent court hearing, prosecutors said that one of the suspects, identified as Davion Murphy, was left alone in an interrogation room shortly after his arrest, where he allegedly made gestures and statements indicating his involvement in the fatal shooting.
According to the prosecution, video evidence shows Murphy forming a gun with his hands and mimicking shooting toward the camera. Officials also claim he verbally took responsibility for his role in the killing during that time.
“That’s Mr. Murphy when he was arrested,” a prosecutor said in court, pointing to identifying tattoos visible in the footage. “In this video, you will clearly see… Mr. Davion Murphy taking full credit for his role in the shooting. That is just after his arrest, when he is left alone in an interview room.”
The footage, which has not been publicly released in full, is expected to play a key role as the case moves forward.
Murphy is one of several individuals charged in connection with the 2024 killing of the Jacksonville rapper, whose real name was Charles Jones. Authorities say Jones was targeted in a coordinated attack outside a hotel near the University of South Florida while he was in Tampa celebrating his birthday.
Prosecutors allege that multiple suspects traveled from Jacksonville as part of a planned effort tied to ongoing rivalries. In addition to the fatal shooting, three other people were injured during the incident.
Murphy, along with three co-defendants, is facing charges including premeditated first-degree murder and evidence tampering. A fifth person previously pleaded guilty to a lesser charge for their role in helping facilitate the crime.
If convicted, prosecutors have indicated they will pursue the death penalty.
