Halsey took some time out of her day to have some fun with Kendrick Lamar's hit single "Swimming Pools (Drank)."
In the clip shared on Wednesday, Halsey is sitting outdoors, a palm tree behind her, as she stares straight into the camera and delivers Kendrick's verse over an instrumental from a song by Canadian rapper Dax.
"OK, now open your mind and listen to me, Kendrick. I am your conscience; if you don't hear me, then you will be history, Kendrick. I know that you're nauseous right now and I'm hopin' to lead you to victory, Kendrick," raps Halsey before letting out a burst of laughter.
The unexpected performance left fans stunned in the comment section, with many acknowledging the Kendrick reference and others wanting her to step out of her comfort zone by either dropping a rap song or collaborating with Kendrick.
"Okay but I'm stuck listening to this on a loop I need an extended version Ashley pls," one fan wrote, referring to Halsey's real name, Ashley Frangipane. Another said, "Ok but we need a Kendrick collab."
Someone else chimed in, "NO WAIT MAKE A RAP SONG ONE TIME SHE GOT POTENTIAL."
The moment got even more interesting after Drake liked the video on Instagram. For now, fans are left to guess what Halsey's intention is for the video, as she hasn't offered any explanation.
As for the relationship between Halsey and Kendrick Lamar, the two have no known collaborations or close connection. Halsey has mentioned Kendrick in the past while discussing how genre labels affect artists differently.
"Kendrick [Lamar] has done a Maroon 5 feature, a Taylor Swift feature and a Sia feature — which is more pop features than I've done. No one's calling him a pop star. But I'm being called one, even though I'm inherently an alternative artist," she said in 2017.
"I don't know if it's a male thing, I don't know if it's an urban thing. I don't know what it is. But if you're a female alternative artist and you do anything that's even slightly pop leaning, it's condemning."
