Bobby Shmurda is all smiles after he revealed that his father has been released from prison after more than 30 years behind bars.
The Brooklyn rapper shared the emotional moment on social media, posting a series of videos showing the pair together just hours after his father's release. "Nah why my pops out," Shmurda wrote alongside footage showing the two sitting side by side in the backseat of a car.
In another clip, Shmurda stood shirtless next to his father, who appeared focused on a tablet as the rapper smiled nearby, seemingly still taking in the reality of the moment.
Shmurda was only two months old when his dad was arrested and sentenced, meaning the two spent virtually all of the rapper's life separated by prison walls. The news marks another full-circle moment for Shmurda, whose own life story has been defined by incarceration and redemption.
The rapper exploded onto the scene in 2014 with his breakout hit "Hot N***a," becoming one of hip-hop's most talked-about artists before his career came to an abrupt halt later that year when he was arrested on conspiracy and weapons charges.
In that song, Shmurda mentions his father with the line: "Mama said no pussycats inside my doghouse (Pussy n***a) / That's what got my daddy locked up in the dog pound (Huh)."
Shmurda ultimately served more than six years in prison before being released in February 2021. He hasn't shared many details about his dad's case or immediate plans following the release.
