Beanie Sigel has claimed Jay-Z used to ghostwrite for Memphis Bleek during Roc-A-Fella Records' heyday.
In his latest conversation with The Art of Dialogue, Sigel was asked if Hov ever ghostwrote for Bleek, and the Philly native might have crushed the dreams of Bleek fans with his response. According to the Broad Street Bully, Jay had to ghostwrite for Bleek, especially on classic Roc-A-Fella posse cuts such as "4 Da Fam" and "You, Me, Him, and Her," as he didn't stand a chance against his labelmates.
"Of course, Jay helped Bleek out on a lot of shit," said Beans. "I mean you can hear it. 'Y'all dudes don't get it, come with it / Fifth loaded with slugs that'll / Rest in your fitted / It's M dot E-M, the Roc..' just pay attention. He always cheated for Bleek. He had to cheat for Bleek especially when us three was on a record together."
He continued, "If I ain't right there with Jay, I'm not too far behind him. C'mon man. Bleek never stood a chance. That's my brother, Bleek know. We were doing the Dynasty album, and every record that we were all supposed to have on it always was just me and Jay on a verse."
Beans continued to explain there was a time during the record sessions for The Dynasty: Roc-La-Familia album when songs were made that included just himself and Jay. After a few weeks, Bleek ended up being on most of those songs, which Sigel questioned as he wasn't present during Jay and Bleek's studio sessions.
Beans could only rely on knowing that Bleek had "a little assistance" and an "alley-oop." He also clarified that Jay didn't write all of his rhymes but most of them.
Dame Dash had also confirmed Jay ghostwrote for Bleek during his appearance on The Art of Dialogue. In his take, Dame said he understood Bleek's loyalty to Jay, given he had received a lot of help with his rhymes, and claimed if Jay went out of business, so would Bleek.
Bleek responded to a fan who asked him about Dame's comments, to which he replied, "He wilding right now bro" as well as saying he can't get a hold of Jay even if he tried, "Somebody tell Biggs I’m back working pls can’t reach hov...shit funny to me 'sips Dusse.'" He also had a hilarious response on Instagram, in which he referenced a conversation with Jay in 2002, where he asked him for a verse and got laughter in return.
The trio of Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel, and Memphis Bleek helped elevate Roc-A-Fella Records in the late '90s and later to prominence in the early 2000s. Each held their own in the ring, even when it came to beef with other collectives and artists such as The LOX and Nas.
