Cardi B took a break from her ongoing rap beefs this week to encourage fans to take PrEP to prevent HIV, saying the drug isn't just for gay men.
The Am I the Drama? rapper streamed live on Instagram late on Thursday (Oct. 9) after attending a party in Los Angeles’ West Hollywood. The event, MISTR's National PrEP Day at The Abbey, was attended by other celebrities including NeNe Leakes, Tamar Braxton and Ts Madison.
On her livestream, Cardi continued advocating for PrEP, the shortened form of pre-exposure prophylaxis, which is a medication to prevent HIV risk from sex and injection drugs.
The rapper acknowledged that HIV disproportionately affects men who have sex with other men but said it’s not limited to the LGBTQ community.
“I understand where the stigma came from and everything. HIV is really, like, high in the gay community. But why you think these bitches don’t be having that shit?” she said. “Y’all bitches needa take that shit too. This shit for everybody.”
Bardi is pregnant with her fourth child and first child with boyfriend Stefon Diggs. She was previously married to Offset, who notoriously cheated on the “WAP” artist throughout their relationship.
“You’ll most likely catch something from fucking a rich n***a than a broke n***a,” Cardi said on her livestream. “That’s math. You see how we doing algebra? 1 + 1 = take the PrEP.”
She also addressed the side effects of the drug, pointing out a commenter who said the medication “can mess up your liver and kidneys.”
“Baby, I’d rather my liver and kidneys be messed up than my pussy,” Cardi said.
