Mal Denies Tasha K's Claim That Jay-Z Kicked Him and Rory Out of Roots Picnic: 'I Was Home'

Mal had a solid alibi for where he was the night of the performance.

Mal has cleared up a report from Tasha K alleging he and podcast co-host Rory were kicked out of their section at the Roots Picnic 2026 by headliner Jay-Z.

Mal claimed he was home watching Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night (May 30) when the festival took place.

“I was home watching game 7,” he wrote in response to Tasha K’s post on X.

Lowkey chimed in, calling the report “bullshit.”

GQ senior editor Frazier Tharpe responded to Lowkey’s post, sharing that he “watched the show with Rory.”

Jay-Z had everyone talking over the weekend when he appeared to diss several people in a freestyle during his performance at the Roots Picnic. It seemed as though Jay had plenty to get off his chest in his first solo headlining show in the United States in over seven years, firing back at Drake, Dame Dash, Nicki Minaj, Ye, and Tory Lanez.

His alleged shots at Drake have garnered the most attention.

“A rapper can’t be my opp,” he rapped. “The jig is up / N**** I’m up 10 / Wrong chart, champ, you gotta look up again / N****s look up to HOV / I never looked up to them.”

These bars have been interpreted as a response to Drake throwing a jab at him on “Janice STFU,” in which he rapped, “You boys got big off my name, that's big enough / We know how you OGs rockin' already, my n***a, the jig is up.”
