Kelis Explains Why She Allows Her Child to Be Homeschooled by an AI System in Nairobi

The singer speaks about adjusting to living in Kenya on ‘Earn Your Leisure.’

Kelis detailed her experience leaving the United States and living in Kenya in the latest episode of Earn Your Leisure.

While discussing her children’s education, Kelis admits she may not be the “best person” to speak about the traditional school system in America. “I’m not big on the system to begin with,” she said, adding, “I never felt like it served us.”

Kelis said her children have been homeschooled due to the demands of her touring schedule. Even though she acknowledged that there are good schools in Nairobi, she has turned to a new AI system called Fusion Academy.

Kelis described the AI system as focusing on the needs of an individual child, instead of traditional schooling, which dedicates a set amount of time on a certain subject before moving on. For example, a child can learn history at one grade level, while receiving advanced math instruction.

While she was admittedly “skeptical at first,” Kelis is seemingly happy with the results.

The conversation about her kids’ schooling starts at the 44-minute mark.
