Consequence seemingly made a very questionable claim about Kid Cudi in a since-deleted Instagram post in which Ye and Drake's scrapped joint project was mentioned.
"And the reason we didn't get this Game Changing project...," he wrote. "Is because a Kid... Needed to see Ghosts smh 👻👀"
While Consequence does not specifically mention Cudi in his post, his use of "a Kid" could be interpreted as a reference to the former GOOD Music artist, who also released a mixtape titled A Kid Named Cudi. There is also a more obvious nod to Ye and Cudi's collaborative album Kids See Ghosts.
"So he got bro to take Pills and rant on stage which landed him in the Psych ward," Consequence wrote. "More Triggering Truth To Tell."
The post is accompanied by a clip from the Nico Ballesteros-directed documentary In Whose Name?, which chronicles six years in the life of the artist formerly known as Kanye West.
According to Rolling Stone, the clip shows West rapping a verse for Drake in 2018, and features a demo version of "Wouldn't Leave." A final version of the song, featuring Drake's $ome $exy $ongs 4 U collaborator PARTYNEXTDOOR, would appear on the album Ye that same year.
Kids See Ghosts was also released in 2018. However, Ye and Cudi's collaborative album was among five EPs, helmed by West, that were released over a one-month span. Pusha T's Daytona came out on May 25, followed by Ye on June 1, Kids See Ghosts on June 8, Nasir by Nas on June 15, and Teyana Taylor's K.T.S.E. on June 22.
Considering Ye was dividing his attention between five different projects, it's hard to believe that Cudi's project alone was to blame for whatever happened to West's joint album with Drake. The entirety of Cons' claim, in fact, smacks of unbelievability, with its spread on social media later spurring a response from Cudi. At one point, Cudi said in an Instagram Stories update that his team sent Cons a cease and desist.
“The things he said were pretty fucking disturbing,” Cudi, who called the claims “extremely false,” said on IG. Cudi also warned Cons that he would be hearing from his lawyer if a retraction was not swiftly released to the public.
While much of West's medical history is obviously kept under wraps, he did disclose on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after an involuntary psychiatric hold in Nov. 2016.
This is not the first time that Consequence has publicly brought up Cudi. The rapper briefly shared an excerpt from a song in which he referenced Cudi's testimony in Sean "Diddy" Combs' federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial.
