Billy Ray Cyrus is being accused of "narcissistic abuse" by ex-wife Firerose on social media.

Firerose shared a voice recording on TikTok and Instagram Tuesday (Jan. 20) in which she is allegedly being verbally abused by a man, who she claims to be Cyrus. "I spent years being terrified," she wrote. "I was trained to be afraid of what would happen if I even dared to think about sharing a glimpse of the truth I was living behind closed doors."

In the recording, a man can be heard repeatedly telling a clearly emotional woman to shut up before saying she should "stand there and cry" because "you deserve every bit of this." The man goes on to call her "the most selfish fucking human being I've ever known."

"Over the years, my spirit was systematically worn down so that I became a shell of the person I was," Firerose wrote. "That is always what happens with narcissistic abuse. It’s not an accident. It’s very much calculated so that the fear of sharing what’s really happening, overrides the agony of surviving it alone."

Cyrus filed for divorce from Firerose in May 2024, citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct, according to court documents obtained by People. The two got married in Oct. 2023.

According to E! News, Firerose implied she was the victim of "narcissistic abuse" during her relationship with Cyrus in an Instagram post last month.

She shared a post, which read, "In your 20s you'll meet a 49-year-old man who convinces you you're his soulmate... It is very important you don't believe him," before a video of her and Cyrus appeared.

"If you’ve survived narcissistic abuse, you’re not alone," she wrote. "It's chilling how similar survivors experiences really are. Behind closed doors, it’s always the same playbook. Control, isolation, rage, manipulation, walking on eggshells, cognitive dissonance, feeling like the only person in the world that can be experiencing what you are."

According to People, Cyrus claimed in court documents last year that he was physically, emotionally, and verbally abused by Firerose. The singer's manager Scott Adkins claimed in an affidavit that he witnessed her abuse towards Cyrus.
