Stone Roses' Gary 'Mani' Mounfield Dies at 63, But Cause of Death a Mystery

The bassist of the 'Stone Roses' band, known as Mani, has died, his brother wrote on social media.

Gary Mounfield, the bassist from the Stone Roses band who was known as "Mani," has died at the age of 63, his brother, Greg Mounfield, confirmed on social media.

He is being remembered by top artists in the music world after news of his death broke on November 20.

"IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELDRIP RKID," Greg wrote on Facebook.

Greg added in the comment thread, "Reunited with his beautiful wife Imelda."

People filled his comment thread with well-wishes, with some expressing shock. "That’s absolutely terrible news RIP, I’m lost for words," wrote one person.

How did Mani die? A cause of death was not released for Mani.

According to The Independent, Gary was also a bassist for the band Primal Scream.

The frontman for the Stone Roses also wrote a tribute to Mani on his X page. "REST IN PEACE MANi X," wrote Ian Brown on November 20. The post quickly racked up almost half a million views, with fans also offering tributes in the thread.

"I met him before a gig in Edinburgh corn exchange and he was a really nice guy. Rest on peace Mani," wrote one fan.

"Very sad and sudden news, we lost Mani at 63yrs RIP," wrote another fan, sharing a photo with the artist. "Mani was always very kind and down to earth with fans. Myself and Mani in 2012 before Roses Dublin show. God bless his soul and thoughts to family."

Liam Gallagher also posted a tribute on X, writing, "IN TOTAL SHOCK AND ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED ON HEARING THE NEWS ABOUT MANI MY HERO RIP RKID LG."

According to the Independent, Mani was raised in Manchester, England, and started playing in bands in the 1980s. He was also part of a band called The Waterfront.
