Travis Scott has set the record straight on why he often smashes equipment during live performances.
In a new cover story for L'OFFICIEL USA, the rapper, who stars in upcoming adventure epic The Odyssey, spoke about his reputation for smashing laptops. Scott has famously broken tech equipment over the years, including slamming a laptop during Paris Fashion Week last year, and more, recently, hurling a Complex microphone to the ground during Nike's Toma National Finals in Bryant Park over the weekend.
“It’s crazy because people see me out sometimes and they be like, Yo, this dude is wild,” Scott told L’OFFICIEL. “But I’m at home self-preserving. When I do go outside, I like to have a good time. I love to dance.”
“On stage is not different from when I’m actually outside, listening to music or in a club,” he continued. “People think I want to break laptops. No, no, no. I get caught up in the mix sometimes. Who doesn’t break a drink here or there?”
The UTOPIA artist added that he spends a bulk of his time working and being at home with his children, Stormi, 8, and Aire, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend, Kylie Jenner.
“That’s peaceful for me. I sit; I cook. Then when I do pop out, I let the energy flow. It’s weird for people to just go outside and stare. I’ve never been that person,” Scott explained.
Earlier this year, the Houston native told Rolling Stone that when he becomes filled with “pure energy,” the adrenaline rush can force into him breaking laptops impromptu. Scott also brushed off clips of him “DJing terribly” by placing the blame on stuck computer keys.
"I know how to play music off a laptop," he said. "A lot of these fools, computers are just fucked up… command keys aren't working and shit like that."
