Tory Lanez wants distance from a prison guard that he claims seeks to place him in a “dangerous housing unit.”
In documents filed on May 27 in federal court, the Canadian rapper-singer, who’s currently housed in California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo, alleges that he’s been victim to ongoing threats, intimidation and harassment by a specific prison guard.
Last year, Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, was attacked by a fellow inmate, Santino Casio, who allegedly heard rumors of Lanez wanting him harmed. Lanez was stabbed 14 times in the incident and suffered from 2 collapsed lungs.
In the filing, Lanez’s team claimed that the prison guard referenced the 2025 attack “in a threatening manner,” sparking concern that the incident would be repeated.
In April, the Peterson artist filed a $100 million lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, in addition to seeking damages from the warden and 50 correctional officers at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Following his hospitalization, Lanez was relocated to California Men’s Colony. The 33-year-old is serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of 3-time Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion.
While calling for his restraining order filing to be approved, Lanez claimed that he fears retaliation for his recent suit. Along with sustaining physical damage, the artist said that he’s been emotionally scarred from the 2025 attack. Lanez has requested to have no direct contact with the guard other than regular prison interactions, and asked for protection from retaliation.
