Rick Ross has extended his support to Drake despite refusing to play his versus during his recent VERZUZ event with French Montana.
On the Friday (May 8) episode of Apple Music’s Rap Life Review, following the latest iteration of VERZUZ, Rozay explained why he skipped over Drizzy's versus during the show.
He claimed the reason was due to him being a "boss," adding: "Drake, if you listening to this homie, listen to me, my n***a, shine. I don't want to see you lose. No real n***a want to see you lose. That ain't what about. This culture, this game, this rap this ain't what it's about."
Ross and Drake were frequent collaborators over the last decade or so, teaming up on songs like "Aston Martin Music," "Stay Schemin'" (also featuring Montana), "Money in the Grave" and more.
The friendship fell apart in 2024, around the time Drizzy was embroiled in his beef with Kendrick Lamar, when Ross accused his once-friend of disloyalty and depending on ghostwriters.
Elsewhere during his chat on Rap Life Review, Ross recounted telling DJ Nasty that he would perform certain songs "minus the Drake vocals" and stressed that Montana doesn’t have a problem with Drizzy. "It’s deeper than rap," Ross continued.
"We never said weren't qualified," Ross added. "But homie, what we was saying was at the time was speaking for you."
Ross also recalled Montana introducing him to Drake before the global hitmaker became an RIAA diamond-certified success. Although, the "Hustlin'" artist couldn’t end his speech without a swipe at Drake’s physical features, joking that they met when the Toronto rapper had a "big nose."
